Home office: tips for having your own home office

New times, new work dynamics: in recent years it is increasingly common to find professions and jobs in which the home office — that is, the office at home — becomes a common practice, especially in large cities.

It doesn’t matter if you’re part of the group that works remotely all the time or if you’re part of the people who occasionally take one task or another with them after hours, there’s only one rule: to concentrate well and speed up productivity, you need to design a nice little office corner at home.

“It can be a space that you use all day or half an hour a week, the important thing is to be a cozy place, where you feel like staying”, explains Nathalia Hartung Carvalho, architect at Loft . With her help, we’ve separated some tips for you to set up the home office that works best for your professional routine.

Despite being the scenario considered ideal by Nathalia, not every house has an extra room to act as a home office, especially when you live in an apartment. Therefore, the first step in designing your home office is to understand which home office model is best suited for your situation.

When the idea is to receive clients, for example, the best thing is for the home office to be set up in the living room or in a reserved space. “An office in the bedroom does not work well in these cases, because the person may feel uncomfortable or intimidated to enter there”, explains Nathalia.

Setting up an office in the living room is a good choice for those who do not have an extra room for it.
If there’s no way, as in apartments where the living room and bedroom are integrated, a feature often seen in apartments with industrial decor , for example, the architect recommends office models in which a relaxed decor takes care of breaking the ice. “You can bet on vibrant colors and cool paintings to make the environment cooler”, she says.

Another option in this case is to receive clients for meetings in cafes close to your home. If, on the other hand, you think your apartment needs an extra room to have the home office you’ve always wanted, check out Loft’s apartments for sale .

For Thiago Maboni, one of our Marketing specialists, working remotely has become part of his daily life. He told us a little about how this experience was and what he understood as most important for an ideal Home-office. Take a look at what he has to say on the subject:

OFFICE IN THE BEDROOM: CAN YOU?

Office in the bedroom is not always ideal, but if designed well it can work
Speaking of an office in the bedroom, the question is not uncommon — after all, can you or can you not? And the answer is: it depends. “Ideally, it should be in another room, because for some people the fact of having to leave the room to work makes a lot of difference”, says Nathalia.

However, some strategies can help create discipline even with the desk next to the bed. The secret is to transform the corner of the office in the bedroom into a different environment from the rest of the room, or even create a cloffice . “You can do another type of painting on the wall and put more focused artificial lighting on the work table, like a track lamp”, suggests the architect of Loft .

Lighting , incidentally, is the biggest asset of a good home office. “It is essential that the home office is a well-lit place”, says Nathalia. That little corner by the window, with good natural light, or a lamp or table lamp that highlights the table from the central lighting of the room are good bets.

Another difference is the chosen colors. “I try to choose a color that sparks creativity and, at the same time, generates comfort, but without making me sleepy.” Light and paint can help distinguish the office from the rest of the decor in the apartment or house. “It’s very easy to get distracted working from home. These are simple solutions to create a workspace where nothing gets in the way”, explains the architect.

A GOOD HOME OFFICE CANNOT BE MADE JUST TABLE AND CHAIR
Of course, a workbench or desk and a good, ergonomic chair are the heart of the home office. The decoration of the home office, however, does not stop there. When it comes to idealizing the design of the environment, the watchword is comfort — and not just when choosing an office chair and table. “The colors and lights should also bring good visual comfort”, argues Nathalia, buy Laminate flooring in Jacksonville Beach

She also bets on paintings and plants to create a less monotonous and more lively environment. Investing in textures that are not part of the rest of the house, such as a different floor or wall, can also reinforce the uniqueness of the office, separating spaces for rest and leisure from the workplace in the house.

PLANNED OFFICE: WHAT TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION?
Designing an office with custom furniture is a good alternative to make the space even more personalized. The height of the table, suited to the body type of the person using it, is the first thing to consider. The length and width of the worktop can also vary depending on the nature of the work and the number of objects and equipment used on a daily basis.

In addition, it is interesting to invest in storage spaces. “Drawers help a lot with organization, especially when people deal with a lot of papers or folders,” says Nathalia. “It’s also nice to have at least one shelf to put books or work materials”, recommends Loft ‘s architect .
